Zones: delivery areas on the map

A zone is a delivery area you draw on the map. Zones let you keep drivers where they belong — the downtown driver downtown, the van out of the pedestrian district — and they give the optimizer a map of who's allowed where. Zones live under Fleet → Zones.

Drawing a zone

1. Open Fleet → Zones

   You'll see a map with any existing zones.

2. Press Create zone

   Press Create zone. The map shows the hint "Click to add points; click the first point to finish." Changed your mind? Press Cancel creating.

3. Draw the polygon

   Click to place each corner, then click the first point again to close the shape.

4. Name and color it

   Give it a Zone Name (e.g. "Downtown Area"), pick a Zone Color, and set the Fill Opacity so overlapping zones stay readable. Press Add Zone to save it.

Changing a zone's shape

Open the zone's More actions (⋮) menu in the list and choose Edit zone shape. A bar at the bottom of the map shows Editing: and the zone name, and the zone's corners become handles:

• Move a corner — drag it.
• Add a corner — drag one of the small handles halfway along an edge.
• Remove a corner — click it, then press Backspace or Delete. A zone always keeps at least three corners.

Press Save Changes to keep the new shape, or Reset Shape to go back to the original. The × button leaves editing.

To rename a zone or change its color, choose Edit zone details from the same menu.

Restricting drivers to zones

Zones do their real work through driver zone restrictions (driver settings). For each driver:

• Default — services every zone (unless the driver has Allowed zones, then only those).
• Allowed — restrict the driver to specific zones.
• Excluded — prevent the driver from servicing certain areas.

You can also set access from the zone's side. Open Edit zone details: the Zone access list shows every driver with Default, Allowed, and Excluded buttons. "Changes apply immediately" — you don't need to save the form.

The optimizer honors these when it builds routes: a stop inside an Excluded zone won't be given to that driver, and a driver with Allowed zones only gets stops inside them. As the app puts it: "Drivers with no zone assignments can service all areas. Use ALLOWED to restrict drivers to specific zones, or EXCLUDED to prevent them from servicing certain areas."

See the map as one driver sees it

Pick a driver in the View as driver menu at the top of the page. The map marks each zone as Serviced or Not serviced for that driver, so you can check their restrictions at a glance. Choose Clear in the same menu to go back to the normal view.

Coverage warnings

Restrictions can accidentally leave an area with nobody to serve it. Routerra watches for this and warns you: when every zone has an eligible driver you'll see All zones covered; when one doesn't, it flags the count of zones that have no eligible drivers, each marked No eligible drivers.
